Laura Ingalls Wilder blog

From the Laura Ingalls Wilder blog.
Please note Carrie wrote this letter. She states at the top that her dad was the first justice of the peace in town.

Literature At Home part III

On The Way Home has a forward by Rose Wilder Lane. In it she describes the literature, textbooks, magazines, and newspapers her family received or had at home.  I'd like to make a list of known literature (ie. newspaper, magazine, books, dimestore novels).

Family Relations

Laura Ingalls Wilder has family relations to the Delano family. Now, who is that? The most popular person today would be Franklin  Delano Roosevelt.  Also, an astronaut Alan P. Shepherd is also descended from the Delano tree.

The Delano family is one of the families that came over to America on the Mayflower. They even signed the Mayflower Compact.

Literature in the home

This is part two from my previous blog about literature at home. I spoke with an expert, Ms  Sarah T. She stated the following.

":@MercedesCharity Laura used the Watson Independent Reader (which is great) & used the Swinton Series in De Smet."

While the whole of McGuffey Readers can be found online free without pictures I had to do a bit of searching for the other Readers.

The following link is the Watson independent reader.

It's due today!

I must turn in my LIW book to the library today. Bummer. That was three renewals. It's time to let someone else get it.

Turned in it has been.

Strange winter weather

High and lows. Laura Ingalls Wilder and  her family, friends, and neighbors had to deal with blizzards and blizzard like conditions. And they did it without electronics. THE LONG WINTER deals with this long winter season. I still need to read this book.
